The study also found that infertility rates and the number of premature babies due to sexual and reproductive health problems are also rising.
According to the study, each year more than half a million women die from complications during pregnancy and childbirth, about 80 million women have unintended pregnancies and 45 million of them solve problems by abortion. Meanwhile, up to 120 million couples cannot have children as desired.
'This study triggers a warning bell that if we are not openly and candidly concerned about gender and reproductive health, the total number of deaths and infertility will remain with us in for years to come, 'said Paul Van Look, director of WHO reproductive health.
