Why can't lightsaber become a reality?
Lightsaber is a fictional weapon in the Star Wars series, using high-energy lasers to form a blade that can slash iron like slashing mud. Current scientific technology has allowed us to use high-energy lasers as weapons capable of burning targets from a distance, just like a laser cannon project is being tested by the US Navy.
There have been quite a few fictional technologies in the past that have come true, but a weapon like lightsaber will probably only be a product of imagination. So try to see what reasons make light search impossible to become reality?
Lightsaber needs a huge amount of power
To be able to create a laser of course we need a source of electric energy. However, in order to be able to create a high-energy laser beam with very high heat to cut off all materials, we will need a huge energy source. So you need a power supply system large enough instead of some conventional batteries.
Surely no warrior wants to use the lightsaber sword with a wire plugged into the wall. But this is not an important reason why military scientists cannot create such a weapon. Because nanotechnology in the future can create micro-batteries that can store very large amounts of energy, solve this problem. Of course, after each battle, the Jedi warrior will have to go home to charge his lightsaber.
And also radiating huge energy
The lightsaber blade is a high-energy laser beam that converts electricity into heat, which has an enormous temperature that can cut any material. However, there was a great effect here, because the heat generated was too great, so before the sword could destroy the enemy, the sword wielder might have been burned down an arm.
In order to be so close, this clothes must have been ash for a long time.
Maybe the scientists will find out how to make a mini cooling system or some insulation material at the hilt, but using such a melee weapon is not really logical. Come on. Perhaps the warriors will need to wear an extra jacket.
Problems in combat
It is possible that the lightsaber sword can cut off all materials with its very high temperature, but it cannot cut off a mirror simply because the laser beam will be reflected. So to counteract this light sword you just need to use mirror surfaces or be able to reflect the light, and exactly what the lightsaber wielder is suffering from "his back stick".
Battles like this are only in movies.
Adding a lightsaber restriction in battle, it is the swordplay that won't happen as you see in the movie. Since the blade is a beam of light, using lightsaber to block another lightsaber is impossible, they will cross each other. If you bring the sword up, finish the movie!
Light is not what you want
All the reasons above are just a part, but lightsaber lovers can hope future technology can find a way. However, there is one main reason why the search for light forever is still a product of imagination, which is the nature of light.
A light blade we see in the film is about 1m long, meaning we need to limit the laser beam to about 1m. But that is impossible, because light travels in a straight line and cannot be stopped without being reflected or absorbed by something. The light from the Sun directly hits Earth, the light from a flashlight is directed at the front. We simply cannot stop light from traveling through the air.
Lightsaber in fact will last forever.
However, there is a theory that lightsaber is not a laser beam but a hot gas plasma. Plasma is an ionized gas, electrons from the gas are separated from the proton and move at a very fast rate to produce high thermal energy. However, this hypothesis also has problems, because these electrons move chaotic without following a rule, so we will not be able to get a blade with a certain shape.
We can see a lot of scientific causes that make a weapon like light search just a fiction. Besides investing in the most advanced technology and huge costs for a melee weapon is completely unreasonable, instead dagger or sword is still the most effective melee weapon. Instead, there are long-range weapons that can kill enemies in a single note without getting up.
