Women become smart after age 40

Scientists at the Northeast University of Medicine, at Feinberg University, have shown that women in their 40s become smarter than men and they explain this phenomenon.

In their opinion, the female estrogen hormone may be called the brain's elixir. It stimulates mental activity and has a good impact on nerve cells.

Estrogen is a subgroup of steroid group hormones produced by the ovaries and adrenal glands. Men also have this hormone (due to adrenal gland activity) but very small levels. In older women, the hormones secreted are increasing and peaking at birth.

Thanks to a special substance researchers have synthesized and studied the mechanism, simulating the effects of estrogen on cortical cells. In this way, they studied the processes to ensure the optimal interaction between structures under the influence of estrogen. Neurology professor Dipak Shrivastava announced that his team has created bridges that guarantee the transmission of additional information from one neuron to another. Thus, forming a close relationship between the amount of dendrit and intellectual activity.

The higher the number of these links, the better the brain works, the more creative and intellectual it is. Estrogen through that mechanism makes the brain's ability to work up 20 times, meaning that is beyond that ability in men. The reason is that it has a great influence on the production of nerve cells as well as their reactions.

However, treatment with estrogen is a dangerous method because this hormone increases the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and cancer, especially breast cancer.
