Meteor shower is about to appear

Meteor shower can be observed from today, until the maximum night on Saturday. In major cities of Vietnam, astronomical clubs will organize this amazing phenomenon .

In this August, the most remarkable astronomical phenomenon is the Perseids meteor shower - one of the biggest meteor showers of the year with a peak that will take place at dawn on the 13th and 14th.

"Due to the extreme time of the meteor shower at the right time of the full moon, the moonlight will hinder the observation. Therefore, the Hanoi amateur astronomical club will hold an observation sooner. later ", Truong Ngoc Khanh, chairman of Hanoi Amateur Astronomical Association said.

Khanh said that in Hanoi, the observation time was from 20:30 in Dinh village, Dai Mo commune, Tu Liem district. Besides observing meteor shower, astronomers can admire some summer constellations. However, tomorrow night the number of supernovae may be less than the maximum - 100 waves per hour.

Nguyen Thanh Hien, chairman of Da Nang Polytechnic Club, said he will organize astronomers to gather at the hill of Phuoc Tuong mountain range, Hoa Khanh Nam ward, Lien Chieu district to watch meteor shower. at 17:30 the next day.

Also in Ho Chi Minh City due to unfavorable weather, the chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Astronomical Club Dang Tuan Duy said that it will not organize the meteor shower in this August . "Over the past few days, the weather in the southern region is erratic, often with dark clouds and rain at night," Tuan Duy said.

Dang Vu Tuan Son, chairman of the young Vietnamese astronomical club, said that the near-moon condition and the bright moon could make observation more difficult. However, around the time of 3 am on the 13th and 14th, the moon dived towards the western and southwestern sky, so it did not affect the observation of the meteor shower much. The deciding factor is still the weather."If the weather is favorable, you can wait for the meteor shower to see," Son said.

Astronomers recommend that observation should be done after 12pm, ideally from 2am to 4am. The observer should lie on his back to be satisfied with the eye. Telescopes or binoculars can be used but not necessarily.

Perseids are one of the two largest meteor showers in our atmosphere every year. The source of this meteor shower is Swift – Tuttle comet . At the peak, the Perseids meteor shower allowed observation of 60-100 meteors every hour.
