2015: Shanghai can sink in the sea

In the past 30 years, the sea level in the coastal city of Shanghai has risen 115mm, higher than other sea areas in China 90mm. Experts predict that by 2050, sea level will rise 25cm higher than in 2010.

The information is published in a report called 'Softness and Adaptation of the Changjiang River Basin under the Impact of Climate Change' released in November 2009 in China.

Professor Ngo Hoa Lam, of the Shanghai Municipal Coastal and Estuarine Scientific Research Center, said: 'Theoretically, without effective countermeasures, Shanghai could be submerged in water. sea in 2015 '.

Not only facing the rising sea challenges, Shanghai city is currently 'headaches' with carbon emissions.

According to calculations by scientists, the area of the Truong Giang estuary swamp, which is about 300,000 ha, can absorb all of Shanghai's carbon footprint.

However, under the impact of the construction of industrial zones, strong tidal waves, rising sea levels and climate change, the estuarine swamp is narrowed and can only be absorbed by 1 / 3 carbon emissions.

In response to this situation, the city government has requested to strengthen measures to protect and expand wetlands, develop clean energy and reduce emissions.
