Joby Rohrer, the father in the family, said: "We saw the animal swimming very slowly, it looked very painful. It had three scars on its neck because of the rope being strapped."
After filming a shark image video for a while, the family decided to coordinate to rescue the shark from the rope that was increasingly rubbing its neck. Only by diving and diving, Joby Rohrer dived to 18 meters, each dive for about 2 minutes to save the shark.
After half an hour, Joby Rohrer and his son cut off the rope, rescuing the shark.
Brad Norman, a world-leading expert on whale sharks, said the string may have strangled the animal for at least a few months. If it is not saved, it could be life-threatening. This whale shark is estimated to be about 20 years old.
