A new gas causes a very strong greenhouse effect

Scientists at the Norwegian Air Research Institute (NILU) at the Zeppelin Observatory have noted an increase in a particularly powerful greenhouse gas, called HFC134a.

Picture 1 of A new gas causes a very strong greenhouse effect HFC134a gas is increasingly used in air conditioning systems in cars and houses.

Although manufacturers ensure that these systems have been designed to avoid any leakage, HFC134a concentrations have doubled since 2001 to 2004.

According to the researchers, this gas has a powerful greenhouse effect (1000 times more than CO2). Therefore, it is necessary to monitor its progress even though it has not reached a sufficient concentration to directly affect the global warming phenomenon.
