Airbus solar-powered aircraft set a 25-day flight record without stopping

Airbus' Zephyr S solar powered aircraft has officially set a new world record for continuous flight for 25 days without stopping.

According to Thoi Bao Hoan Cau newspaper, Zephyr S took off on July 11 in the state of Arizona, USA and flew at an altitude of more than 21.33 km above the ground, twice as high as the range of commercial aircraft.

The Zephyr S flight time lasts up to 25 days, 23 hours 57 minutes, officially breaking the old record of only 14 days, 22 minutes and eight seconds belonging to an earlier variant of the Zephyr do Airbus program.

Zephyr is a type of unmanned solar powered aircraft. Its wingspan is 25 meters long and the wing is covered by a series of solar panels, helping to power the internal lithium-sulfur battery. In the daytime, it works on the Sun, and at night uses the energy stored before.

The whole body is quite light because it is made of carbon fiber. The weight of Zephyr is only about 75kg. Zephyr S is the design product of the engineering team from Airbus Defense and Space.
