'All CO2 reduction treaties are useless'
The British Institute of Mechanical Engineering affirmed that, despite the introduction of international agreements to reduce CO2 emissions, the earth's climate continued to change in the direction of deterioration.
Over the past few decades, diplomats and many environmental protection organizations have been pursuing an international agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Kyoto Protocol is one of the agreements that most countries participate in. This document will expire in 2012 and countries continue to hold many negotiations to replace it with another agreement.
However, in a recent report, scientists from the British Institute of Mechanical Engineering proved pessimistic about the prospects of the negotiations. 'The most basic terms of the new agreement will focus on efforts to reduce the negative effects of people so that the next generation will have the opportunity to live in better climatic conditions. In other words, the agreement will aim to reduce CO2 emissions. But now, the Kyoto Protocol has almost no effect because CO 2 emissions continue to increase at a dizzying pace , 'the report explains.
Like millions of other scientists on the planet, the authors believe that humans need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, but emphasize that we need to be realistic about the results that can be achieved. "Humans will continue to use fossil fuels until they are exhausted ," the report said.
If the scientific prediction of climate change is correct, the world we live in will have a different face if we don't reduce the use of fossil fuels. Sea level will rise by 7 meters in the UK by 2250, engulfing much of London. At that time, people in the land of fog were forced to leave some regions and spent huge amounts of money to protect the remaining areas.
Climate change forces people to reconsider how to build infrastructure. For example, the location of many power plants must be reconsidered because they are currently located near the coast, which will be submerged when sea levels rise.
'We need to be aware that CO 2 emissions are not decreasing and the earth's climate is changing. If we don't find a way to adapt to the new situation, we will face a difficult and unstable future ' , the report concluded.
