Amazon Forest: Discovering an unbelievably strange fish species

An unknown species of catfish that has ever been known to possess spoon-shaped teeth makes it possible to nibble on large trees that have just been discovered in the jungles of Amazon in Peru.

Scientists from the US National Science Foundation encountered this unique fish in an August expedition in the national park of Alto Purus province, northeastern Peru.

The strange fish was discovered in the national park in the province of Purus Alto.

According to the researchers, the strange fish, about 70 cm long, has teeth that evolved into a " spoon " shape that " scrapes " the trees that fall into the river to eat. It is known that indigenous people have long captured this fish to eat meat, but this is the first time scientists have found a living specimen.

Paulo Petry, a Harvard professor of biology, said: " The specimen we just captured is the first living specimen. It's really hard to detect or catch them. Must use a net or hunting rifle. they ".

The Nahuan of the Sharanahua clan call this fish Ishgunmahuan which in their language means " giant armored fish ".

According to scientists, Ishgunmahuan fish is one of 10 species of the genus Panaque, all of which are characterized by eating wood, deformed teeth into spoons that allow them to shave wood more easily.
