America: Occurrence of irreparable paralysis

Researchers in the US have said that a rare polio syndrome has not had a treatment method on a small number of children in California in recent times.

Five cases of polio have been recognized and described by Stanford University experts at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) in Philadelphia. All tested positive for poliovirus ( polio -causing agent) and were fully vaccinated. Three of the five children showed signs of respiratory problems before their bodies were paralyzed.

Speaking at the meeting, expert Keith Van Haren said: 'Although the virus of poliovirus has been eliminated almost all over the world, some other viruses are also capable of damaging the spine, causing the association. 'paralysis'.

Haren said new virus variants are linked to polio outbreaks in children in Asia and Australia. 5 new cases in California seem to be an emerging syndrome of the disease related to infection.

Even so, Mr. Haren stressed that the syndrome is very rare, and urged parents to bring their children to the doctor if they detect a child with paralysis.

In the middle of 1950, polio was almost wiped out by a special vaccine introduced at the time. But in some countries around the world, including Pakistan, Nigeria and Afghanistan, the disease still flares up.
