What is facial paralysis of actress Angelina Jolie?
Bell's palsy disease caused Angelina Jolie to have facial weakness, drooping eyelids, mouth distortion, which is unknown .
Previously, Angelina Jolie used to talk about breast and ovarian surgery. Now, in Fair Fair, the actress shares herself with facial paralysis called Bell's palsy.
According to Health, Bell's palsy occurs when a facial nerve becomes swollen or inflamed, causing symptoms such as muscle weakness, drooping eyelids, and mouth distortion. These symptoms usually affect half of the face and become severe after 48 hours. Bell's palsy can occur in anyone but is more common for pregnant women or people with flu and diabetes.
Dr. David Simpson, Director of the Department of Neurology at Icahn University (USA), said the cause of facial paralysis has not been determined."We can't find a specific cause even though Bell's palsy is often thought to be caused by a virus," Dr. Simpson said. Hypothetically, the body infected with the virus activates an anti-inflammatory reaction but deflects, aiming to hit the nerve that controls facial motor movement.

Dr. Simpson said in the case of Angelina Jolie, surely facial paralysis is not related to surgery to remove the mammary glands and ovaries. However, he admitted that people with a weak immune system due to cancer or other health problems were slightly more susceptible to Bell's palsy.
Often, doctors can diagnose Bell's palsy based on external observations but sometimes require additional blood tests and CT scans to check for factors such as diabetes and cancer. The patient begins treatment with paralyzed face intervention, especially the eye area. In fact, some seriously ill people cannot close their eyes, resulting in corneal damage. Dr. Simpson suggests these cases should be used with eye drops or eye patches at night.
In order to accelerate the recovery process, doctors will prescribe patients with steorid drugs such as prednisone with the effect of limiting inflammation of the facial nerve. Antiviral drugs such as valacyclovir may also be combined.
Most Bell's palsy patients recover after a few weeks or months. Angelina Jolie revealed that she was completely cured by acupuncture. However, acupuncture as well as relaxation therapy, taking vitamins has not been scientifically proven to cure facial paralysis.
Although less common, some people with Bell's palsy may not recover completely and still develop symptoms after 6 months to a year. Patients need surgery to restore movement as well as symmetry of the face.
