American experts advise on advanced diagnostic techniques
On May 3, the US Embassy in Vietnam said that US consultant David Krueger just finished his 5-week trip in Vietnam to advise Vietnam's veterinary laboratories.
This mission is part of the US assistance program for Vietnam in its efforts to control bird flu.
During his time in Vietnam, Mr. David Krueger, microbiologist of Wisconsin University and an expert in animal disease diagnosis, worked with regional laboratories under the Department of Animal Health in Ho Chi Minh City. Chi Minh, Can Tho and Da Nang.
Krueger has focused on advising on the proper laboratory layout and techniques for using Real-time Polymerase Transmission Reaction (PCR) analysis. This is the most modern and effective diagnostic sequence today. PCR will significantly improve the ability of testing and diagnosis, thereby enhancing the ability to monitor and control avian influenza in Vietnam.
Mr. Krueger also attended a seminar with Vietnamese laboratory staff to discuss standardization of procedures and improve the coordination of the 9-laboratory system of the Government of Vietnam.
