Anti-drowsiness device for driving 'made in Vietnam'

A device that automatically gives multiple choice questions to the driver. If there is no answer or if the response time is slow, intermittent, a warning signal against drowsiness will immediately come out.

Being "awakened" because of slow thinking

The research team from the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, including Nguyen Quang Truong, Hoang Manh Cuong, Vu Manh Cuong and Tran Anh Duc, has developed anti-drowsiness equipment for drivers at low cost. conditions of our country.

Nguyen Quang Truong, research leader, said the device has a compact rectangular box. When installed in vehicles, the device will detect drowsiness conditions based on factors such as time, distance and continuous driving time. After that, the device will determine the state and alertness of the driver by measuring the time to answer multiple choice questions given by the device. The time needed to answer questions will be inversely proportional to the level of alertness of the driver. Finally, the device will generate a sleep alarm signal, with signals such as flash, sound, pulse current.

The team tested the device's ability to wake up for volunteers. Test results from volunteers aged 20 - 35 show that the time that volunteers answer the right question while awake is 100%, the degree of error decreases with the following time levels. Sleepiness is 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 25 minutes and 35 minutes.

Support to reduce accidents

However, according to Nguyen Quang Truong, the device only plays a part to reduce accidents, it is not the main solution to limit related accidents. Because according to psychiatrists, "trying to" by all means will disturb the "circadian rhythm" in each person. Lack of prolonged sleep causes the body to become tired, aches, sunken eyes and blurry eyes. After 2 - 3 sleepless nights will significantly reduce concentration and consideration. The time span of about a week will have a trembling feeling in the limbs, memory will start to get confused, abnormal behavior and paranoia. And when falling into that state, driving is extremely dangerous.

The price of hardware is about VND 1 million. If deployed into a commercial product, the price may be cheaper. The important point is that the product is easy to use. With test questions for drivers, it will be easy to identify the driver's unconsciousness when they are driving. Multiple choice questions are quite simple. For example, which direction the Sun rises, is it raining, does the sun get hot or randomly add simple numbers. If the driver does not respond or intermittently answer for too long, the device will issue necessary warnings. The device is powered by battery or electric power directly from the car.
