Video: Experience Google's self-driving vehicle technology
Google's self-driving car project has now moved to a new stage: making it self-driving in the city after mastering the highway. With the new goal, Google will have to be able to identify complex intersections and pedestrians on the road. According to the giant looking for a self-driving car, it can detect "hundreds of different objects" at the same time, from signs to signal lights.
Google's cars are now able to detect street changes. For example, this vehicle can identify when the road is closed for construction, or when the road has another vehicle parked to avoid an accident.
Reportedly, Google tested the project in "home" Mountain View, California, where the search giant is headquartered. After reaching 300,000 miles in August 2012, Google now has 700,000 miles of self-driving cars operating without any problems.
