Discover Mercedes-Benz self-propelled vehicle technology
Self-propelled vehicle technology promises to bring people safety, comfort and personalization. Currently, there are many cars equipped with auto technologies such as garage entry, auto parking, etc. It may take several years until we have self-driving cars. Can actually run on the road safely.
Mercedes-Benz self-propelled vehicle technology
In order for a vehicle to be self-propelled, it must first understand its surroundings in order to make the necessary reactions. To do that, it needs a lot of data and information from the sensor system. Currently Mercedes-Benz is using ultrasonic sensors , radar and cameras to collect data about the surrounding environment in all directions. In the future, other sensor technologies can be integrated to increase the amount of data provided to the vehicle.
From a regular car, Mercedes-Benz added stereo cameras that can accurately identify the front objects, such as standing obstacles, moving vehicles or pedestrians within 50 meters. It can also determine the lane to know when the car must be cornered and how to keep the lane properly.
On the car, there are also 2 long-range radars on each side to monitor the traffic situation on the right and left side of the car at the intersection or intersection.
There are also 4 short-range radars to monitor unexpected situations, useful when entering the roundabout or when two vehicles run in parallel.
The car has 2 cameras, one in the front and one in the back. The front will monitor the traffic situation in front of the vehicle and traffic signal. And the rear will watch the cars behind the tail. Along with GPS signals, these cameras will help locate the vehicle more accurately.
Vehicles equipped with digital maps with higher accuracy, more detailed than conventional navigation maps. The digital map will have detailed information such as which position there is a stop line, traffic light, . the information will then be recorded by the vehicle-mounted sensor system.
The driver control system will be able to analyze and retrieve real-time data and make the most appropriate processing decisions for each situation. The department that makes handling decisions will not link to any system outside the vehicle, so it will be safely protected from non-external requests.
Mercedes-Benz not only developed self-propelled technology on cars but also applied it to trucks. They not only test in Germany but also in many different countries around the world and hope one day not far away we will see fully automated cars running on the road.
