Archaeological site of torture of prisoners

Archaeologists from Uludag University's Department of Science and History (Turkey) recently discovered a crypt area with the torture chamber and tunnels leading prisoners to the afterlife of the ancient kingdom Bithynian era (297 - 274 BC).

According to the survey, experts say, the cave area dates back to 2,300 years ago, an ancient area left in the Bursa region, Turkey. Inside the ancient area there were quite a number of torture rooms, dead holes and traces of leftover blood.

These torture chambers are buried under the foundation of houses in the area and it is interconnected. The research leader - İbrahim Yılmaz - of Uludag University said: "A tunnel is about 3.4 km long, running around the city and Bursa city contains many mysteries."

Learn about the traces of leftover blood, and compare it with the material, the experts found, the ancient people had a form of torture of rather harsh prisoners. They will be hanged for a while.

Not only that, the prisoners were tortured until they were dumb and deaf. More frightening, a prisoner will be severely beheaded and this head is thrown into the well. Meanwhile, the rest of the body will be returned to the prisoners' relatives.

However, researcher Yilmaz also said that if the prisoner wants to see the whole family, the family will have to pay a certain price to bring the corpse home.

Archaeologists are still conducting research on these special torture rooms. It is expected that by 2016, this area will become an outdoor museum, helping visitors better understand the small hidden corner of the ancient people.
