Asian-born female student won

Kirtana Vallabhaneni - a 17-year-old Indian student of West Kirby Grammar School - has been awarded the British 'Young Scientist of the Year' award after excelling beyond the other 360 'opponents' .

Kirtana Vallabhaneni says she is very happy with the 'Young Scientist of the Year' award.

According to the BBC, Vallabhaneni participates in a study of the University of Liverpool to isolate harmful cells - the "culprit" of pancreatic cancer, making the process of chemical treatment more effective.

Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock - a famous space scientist and award jury member - said she was "impressed" with Vallabhaneni's work.

Other judges of the prize include Nobel laureate Tim Hunt and inventor Mark Champkins.

'Young Scientist of the Year' is a British national award for young people aged 11-18 who has completed a science-technology-technology or math project.
