The 13th APhO is organized by the Indian Association of Physical Teachers (IAPT) in collaboration with the Homi Bhabha Educational Science Center (HBCSE). IAPT is a volunteer physics teacher organization founded in 1984 to upgrade the quality of teachers and the level of physics teaching at all levels of India. Currently IAPT has 5,000 members, of which 100 are foreign teachers.
APhO is currently the leading physics contest for undergraduates in Asian countries. APhO's model is like the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), the only difference is that the delegation of each country participating in APhO is 8 candidates, while the delegation of each country participating in the IPhO is 5 candidates. The age of the contestants must not be more than 20 by June 30 of the year of the exam opening.
