Australia found fossils tens of millions of years old

Rare traces of a crocodile species and some other fossils dating back to 50 million years have been discovered in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

The mayor of Brisbane, Graham Quirk, said the fossils happened to be discovered by road and bridge construction workers while constructing a road near the train station Geebung. Fossils were found between shale at a depth of 15m.

After conducting the assessment, geologists have identified these fossils as some species such as ancient crocodiles, fish, freshwater snails, and traces of trees.

According to Queensland Museum executive director Suzanne Miller, the new finding has "special meaning" because the approach and study of Brisbane's archaeological archaeological sites has always been limited due to strong urban and housing development.

Queensland officials say fossil fragments will facilitate archaeologists to expand their research and there are likely to be more fossils found in the surrounding areas.

Queensland is one of Australia's states that concentrates a large number of fossil archaeological sites, including giant dinosaur fossils, next to fossils of three newly discovered dinosaurs in Winton, Western this state in 2009.
