Australia: Insulin cell transplantation for patients with type I diabetes

In recent years, insulin cell transplantation trials for type I diabetics have been successful in some countries, especially in Australia. This treatment can help patients with type I diabetes no longer have daily insulin injections.

Researchers in Australia have gradually approached the definitive treatment of type I diabetes after successfully transplanting insulin-producing cells for eight patients.

This breakthrough brings hope for 140,000 Australians who are dependent on daily insulin injections.

Currently, the experimental subjects are patients with unstable conditions, blood sugar levels are often abruptly reduced without any sign of prognosis before. However, according to Dr. Wayne Hawthorne, the team's goal is to apply this treatment to all diabetics.

For patients with type I diabetes, the immune system disorder has produced antibodies that kill the body's insulin-producing cells. After a course of treatment, the amount of insulin the patient needs to control blood sugar levels will be greatly reduced, in some cases it may be 0.
