Beams: Butterflies have transparent wings

Butterflies are insects that are famous for their wings with colorful colors and brilliant patterns. But the Greta oto butterfly is equally charming because of its rare, almost transparent wings.

Greta oto is the scientific name of one of the most beautiful butterflies on the planet with nearly transparent wings. If you look closely, a thin film can be seen through the middle veins on the butterfly wings.

This fragile beauty butterfly lives in areas stretching from Mexico to Panama in Central America. They often extract bile from many different flowers in tropical forests and lay eggs on the 'Cestrum' genus.

The Greta oto butterfly chooses to lay eggs on this poisonous plant to ensure the safety of its breed. The caterpillars with purple and red stripes when hatched and raised by this plant will store alkaloid compounds that will keep them from being eaten by predators until they become mature butterflies.
