Break 53 tons of rocks to find beautiful mummies

Archaeologists discovered a series of ancient tombs that contained intact, still-decorated mummies. In order to reach these mummies, they had to "remove the young, fill the tank".

The Egyptian Antiques Commission had to cut up to 53 tons of stone to find out the location of these ancient tombs in the southwestern region of Illahun, Fayoum, Egypt. The mummies here are 4,000 years old. Mr. Zahi Hawass, Director of the Committee revealed that four mummies were found in the 22nd dynasty (from 931 to 725 BC) and affirmed that these are the most beautiful mummies ever.

The mummy with the lid is carved out, painted with traditional colors of Egypt.

The bodies were marinated in wooden sarcophagi, and wrapped in white cloths, painted on their own traditional Egyptian colors like gold, turquoise and reddish brown. Excavation is directed by bdel-Rahman El-Ayedi, a supervisor of the Archaeological Committee. While excavating, people also found ash of other coffins, buried in the Coptic Catholic era.

Besides the coffins, the search team also discovered 15 colored masks, clay pots and amulets, which are considered to be separate objects of the ancient Egyptians.

The mummies found this time reveal more information about the decorative art of ancient Egypt.

Mr. Farouk Hosn, Egyptian Minister of Culture, said that the graves here are designed very differently. Some reveal through the spear, others have spears pointing to the second or below room.

This latest discovery follows an interesting discovery two months ago when Zahi Hawass claimed to have found 30 mummies inside a self-standing needle in Saqqara. This is considered a rare event when the ancient houses can find up to 30 intact mummies in the pyramid of Saqqara, the area is always looked after by thieves antiques.
