Can we remember events that have never happened?
Scientists say our memories can be influenced by other people's thoughts.
Our memories have very strange reactions, especially when there is an influence of outsiders . For example, if someone remembers past events in a different way, it can affect our memories. Science calls this phenomenon "Transactive memory system".
However, this system seems much more complicated. In a recent survey conducted by Hope & Fear magazine, the results showed that many people believed and shared a " fake memory" in the past.
Many people can share memories . not real.
Specifically, it is the story of the 9/11 US disaster. Donald Trump - American investor and politician has affirmed that he saw Muslims dancing and celebrating this disaster.
However, even though many people are "peeling off" in the wrong way, the survey results show that more than one third of participants believed and remembered this memory.
To explain, researcher Stephen Ceci of Cornell University (USA) contacted a 1954 psychological study of football players. In particular, players of each team remembering the match all said that the opponent was more aggressive (though the truth is probably only . the referee knows).
According to Kimberly Wade of Warwick University (UK): "Some studies show that our memories of common events can be bent. Specifically, if two people witness an event together, when drafting "The idea is that this person's memory can affect the other person, making them believe in things they haven't really observed. So it's not hard to imagine this phenomenon happening in a larger group either."
A person's memory can be changed for others.
Even William Hirst, a psychologist at Cornell University in the US, said: "Some people know that the event is wrong but still believe in the event. This proves once the memory is formed, it won't be easy to remove it ".
Hirst concluded that it was possible for a group to remember some memories . never happened. So . don't believe everything you hear.
