Cars adjust speed

Volvo car group is about to launch a car that can adjust the speed to maintain a fixed distance with the vehicle ahead in any situation. It can even stop and restart without the driver's braking action.

Radar wave motion control system will appear on Volvo S60 models - new vehicles are applied new technology capable of detecting pedestrians in the vehicle's path.

Thomas Broberg, a Volvo safety expert, said: 'Our goal is that by 2020, no one will be injured or killed because of Volvo's car. We have conducted many tests to help drivers avoid collisions with other motorized vehicles. We are now making a big step in improving pedestrian safety. We dare to claim that there have not been any other car companies that have achieved success in this area. '

Previous radar wave motion control systems were not able to operate at speeds below 28.8 km / h. But the S60 Volvo system still works well when it is in a row of cars moving every centimeter and constantly stops because of traffic jams. The above systems all have a dual-mode radar device integrated into the car's iron grille, a rear-view rear-view camera and a central control unit.

Radar and camera constantly observe the road in front of the car. The radar's mission is to detect objects and calculate the distance from the vehicle to them. The camera will categorize those objects.

The system is programmed so that the car automatically responds to a stop or move in the same direction of the front cars. Automatic braking can only be activated when both the radar sensor and the camera confirm the presence of pedestrians and cars.

'Volvo has been researching this technology for the past 10 years. We have been testing vehicles on the road for many years and in many countries. Engineers are always concerned about traffic situations, road conditions and weather conditions during the design of a complete motion control system , 'Thomas Broberg said.

Volvo confirmed the collision warning system will prevent the risk of crashing a pedestrian at speeds below 19.2 km / h and significantly reducing the impact of a collision if the vehicle is launched at a greater speed.

Percentage of pedestrians killed always accounts for 10-25% of all deaths due to traffic accidents in European countries. In 2007 alone, the number of deaths in traffic accidents in European capital cities was 1,560. Of these, pedestrians accounted for 43%.

The design team also believes that their new technology can help significantly reduce rear-end collisions. The S60 Volvo will be released in 2010. The model of the new system will be on display at the Detroit auto show in January next year.
