Proposed renaming by Senator Tobias Ellwood was initiated by most MPs and leaders such as Prime Minister David Cameron, Liberal Democratic Party chairman Nick Clegg and Ed Miliband Labor Party chairman.

The House of Commons approved this change of name 'and will arrange for the name change to take place in the correct order'.

According to the Daily Mail, the Queen of England is said to have been "moved" to the honor after hearing it.

Prime Minister Cameron said that renaming the tower was "an act of honoring the queen for her dedication to the country" for the past 60 years.

The name Big Ben is known in fact as the tower's 13.5-ton bell. The MPs said the colloquial name Big Ben of the tower will continue to be circulated, but from now on the tower has a new official name of Elizabeth Tower.

Earlier, a tower in the west of the British Parliament building was renamed, from King Tower to Victoria Tower, to mark the long-standing rule of Queen Victoria.
