Chimpanzees can also die from AIDS
Research reports published in the British Journal of Nature show that chimpanzees can also die from AIDS in monkeys just like AIDS in humans.
This finding rejects the traditional notion that HIV viruses occur in humans and monkeys, and that HIV-infected monkeys will not infect primates.
Scientists believe that early AIDS was transmitted to humans by non-human primates. And monkeys are also infected with HIV, similar to humans. However, working primates in Tanzania's Gombe National Park for the first time discovered chimpanzees may also be infected with HIV and die.
Scientists investigated 94 chimpanzees over a period of nine years and analyzed them to distinguish chimpanzees and test the status of HIV carriers similar to those of monkeys. .
The results of the investigation revealed that after the chimpanzee carried the HIV virus, the mortality rate was 10 to 16 times higher. In addition, once the chimpanzees carry HIV, their reproductive performance is significantly reduced, and the fetal survival rate is also very low.
