China opened its underground nuclear work to the public
Underground nuclear facility 816 in Chongqing Province, China reopened after a year of renovation.
Visit to the underground nuclear facility 816 (construction 816), Fu Lang City, Chongqing Province, China reopened on September 25 after a year of renovation, China News reported.
Building 816 began construction in the 1960s with about 60,000 participants.So far, this is the only Chinese nuclear project to be declassified and open to the public.
Project 816 has a total area of 104,000 square meters, including 18 large caves. In particular, the largest cave is 79.6m high, an area of 13,000m 2 .
It can withstand the pressures of thousands of tons of TNT and earthquake from level 8 earthquakes.
The area is open to visitors using sound and light effects, while simulating a part of the function of the nuclear facility.
"We use sound and light effects to give visitors both auditory and visual experiences but not break the original structure of the dynamic," Truong Nguyen Quan, Deputy General Director of the Group. Kien Phong, the unit involved in the renovation of the project, said.
In addition, the historical context, location, construction process, the process of declassifying and opening the building are also shown through images and artifacts in the exhibition area.
