The whole of Tung Hoa river is poisoned by Benzen
The piped water supply system for about 26,000 people in Dalian Ha, Yilan, Northeast suburb of Heilongjiang province was forced to stop operating at 6 pm on November 30 due to the infiltration of benzene water. The river section flows through this county territory.
The provincial government has declared Yilan will not be affected much because nearly half of the population here (about 110,000 people) use well water and not tap water. The representative of the water plant also added that the water cut will only take place in 3 days.
Yilan broadcaster broadcast newsletters announcing the cutting of water in the seeds with a warning from the Health Authority that people should not drink and use river water. Police and government leaders wearing red bandages handed out to people the leaflets full of information and instructions on how to prevent poisonous water.
Despite the very cold weather, residents in the area still rushed to buy bottled water in shops, supermarkets and reserves of fresh water in every tank, tanks that could hold water.
