Chinese pandas are 25 years old
Chinese star panda named Basi celebrated his 25th birthday on Friday, November 18 in eastern China's Fujian Province. This is a panda whose life expectancy is quite high, scientists say his life is equivalent to 100 life expectancy in humans.
This star panda has a performance at Fujian's birthday celebration as part of the recently opened Festivel panda in the province's Fuzhou capital. Four months later he will be taken to a summer resort near a mountain.
Basi's caretaker said the panda was almost sure of his death, but miraculously he still managed to survive and live longer.
Basi was born in 1980 in Sichuan Province, a legend in the world of pandas. In 1984, due to the search for food - which had become scarce due to the flowering season of bamboo, Basi was found floating in a river. He was picked up and taken to Fuzhou in 1985.
Basi became a star after learning acrobatics, riding a bicycle, kicking clouds and weightlifting. He came to the United States in 1987 and performed at the Asian Games in Beijing in 1990, and was chosen as the lucky panda.
Basi is also interesting for scientists, the first-born panda diagnosed with high blood pressure and the first panda to successfully undergo cataract surgery. One of his stem cells was used for humanity.
