Retired teacher spends his free time researching how to make paper from panda poop.
Liu Xiaodong once taught and retired, he lived in Zhouzi District, Shaanxi, China. In his free time, he created a way to make writing paper from pandas, mulberry bark and vines of kiwi, according to Shanghaiist on November 22. All three materials are easily found in the region.
Liu invested all his savings into inventing new paper. The old teacher has spent two years studying with 10 failed attempts before success. Currently, he runs a factory, teaching people environmentally friendly paper making methods. Liu wanted to transfer the craft so that the next generation could continue making paper from panda poop when he died.
Liu explains the panda's diet is mainly bamboo, its feces are therefore high in fiber. High fiber content helps finished paper with good texture, beautiful color and natural scent of bamboo.
This is not the first time pandas are used to create new products. In 2012, a retired calligraphy teacher used panda manure to grow tea. Thus, tea leaves are thought to have more nutrition and increase antioxidant capacity.
