Climate change warms up the seal 'love'
The warming of the earth causes heavy damage to many animals, but the gray seal guys don't complain at all - because it makes their sex life better.
(Photo: Thewildones) The weak male seals rarely have the opportunity to get close to their children, because they only like strong " guys ". But the low rainfall forced the seals on the remote Scottish island of North Rona to leave their spouses to find fresh water, thus bringing more opportunities for weak men.
Strong males often mate with 10-15 females and guard the " palace " in their territory. This administration is quite simple when the pool of rainwater is everywhere and the girls huddle together in separate areas. But during the dry season, the land becomes larger and males cannot control their concubines.
In a 9-year seal study in North Rona Island, Dr. Sean Twiss at Durham University in Twiss and scientists at the University of St Andrews in Scotland recorded 61% increase in the number of bulls join in breeding.
"This result shows that climate change, which has pushed many species to the risk of extinction, has increased gene abundance in a number of other species," Twiss said.
