Located between Australia and the Hawaiian Islands (USA) on the Pacific Ocean, most of Tuvalu territory (including 9 atolls) is less than 0.9 m above sea level. The highest place of this country is only 4.5 meters from sea level. Therefore, Tuvalu is facing the risk of being submerged by sea due to global warming.Photo: Reuters.
Sea level rise is directly affecting people's lives on the island nation of Maldives. Mohamed Nasheed, Maldives President, once said: "Our people will be sentenced to death if the temperature of the earth increases by 2 degrees Celsius . " Photo: Reuters.
