Millions of Africans are affected by floods

The announcement of the UN Humanitarian Aid Coordination Office (OCHA) said 377 people were killed and nearly 1.5 million people were severely affected by floods since the rainy season began in June / 2010 in Central and West Africa.

According to OCHA , this is the most severe disaster this year, seriously affecting the daily lives of people in countries in this region, especially the risk of food security imbalance. and ecological environmental damage due to prolonged flooding.

Continuous heavy rains have caused many flash floods, destroying many roads and water supply and drainage systems, especially in the two provinces of Sokoto and Kebbi, northern Nigeria. The government has spent more than 150 million USD to support the two provinces to overcome natural disasters.

Prolonged flooding also seriously affects the area of ​​crops in Niger and Chad, causing a prolonged food crisis.

Meanwhile, infectious diseases such as cholera, malaria also boomed in some countries. In Nigeria, cholera has killed 1,182 people.

OCHA has collaborated with a number of world humanitarian aid organizations such as the International Red Cross, International Humanitarian Aid and Health Organization (MSF) and the Red Cross of West African nations. emergency aid for food, medicines and blankets, mosquito nets and necessary tools for people in areas hit by natural disasters.
