Post-flood disaster in South India

Flooding in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka in early October has gradually shrunk. However, millions of people are still unable to return to their hometown because there is still no clean water and food.

Several days of heavy rain and flooding in the two states killed at least 300 people and pushed millions more into the scene. Many people still do not have a shelter.

Aid workers said that in some areas, water was drained enough for them to shift their focus to relocating homeless people.

Ms. P Sayamma, 55, (pictured below) still sees the power of a flash flood to erase her entire village in Aiahwari Pally in Mahboob Nagar district, Andhra Pradesh.

Konda Babu, 30, and her family (pictured below) still have to be relocated after the flood, the disaster is described as the most horrifying in the region in a century.

The crop of hundreds of millions of dollars was destroyed by floods. Many people have to use their hands to dig soil.

Pasha Bi sits on the ruins of what used to be her home in Nandavaram in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh state. Only a wall remained, Pasha did not expect to soon build a shelter.

Before the flood came, villagers in Karnataka faced one of the worst droughts in Indian history.
