Close-up of the heaviest strawberry in the world, 24 times the average
Ariel Chahi, who lives with her family in Israel, owns a large livestock farm. Recently, Ariel Chahi was recognized by the Guinness World Records with the achievement of growing the heaviest strawberry in the world.
This strawberry weighs up to 289 grams, 34cm in diameter.
The juicy red strawberry that Ariel Chahi harvested weighs about 289 grams, 34 centimeters in diameter, about 24 times the average size of a strawberry.
The giant "monster" that Ariel Chahi grows belongs to the Ilan strawberry variety, which is the first large-sized strawberry hybrid created by Dr. Nir Dai.
According to Dr. Nir Dai, the weather in late January and early February is especially cold, strawberries planted during this period will grow 45 days later from flowering than fruit grown in other seasons.
This gives the fruit a chance to grow to a larger size until fully ripe. This year the weather is cold, Ariel Chahi's farm has four unusually large strawberries, but this is the largest of them.
Previously, the record for the heaviest strawberry in the world was 250 grams, held by Japanese farmer Koji Nakao in Fukuoka in 2015. The strawberry is nearly 8cm tall, about 12cm long, and 25-30cm in circumference. The giant strawberry that Mr. Nakao grows is a domestic Japanese variety called Amaou.
