Container ship with world championship: Carrying 17,603 units, still over 667 seats!
With a carrying capacity of more than 18,000 TEUs, Margrethe Maersk is still the largest container ship in the world, not many competitors can reach its position.
Margrethe Maersk is the darling of Maersk Line, a giant transport group specializing in large ocean voyages.
To confirm the position of a major player in the industry, Maersk Line commissioned the Margrethe Maersk, which is part of the 18,000-TEU Triple-E fleet (TEU is the standard unit for 20ft containers).
According to the design, on a journey, Margrethe Maersk can carry up to 18,270 containers.
During his first trip in 2013, Margrethe Maersk came from the port of Algeciras, Spain to the port of Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia. In that time it brought 17603 containers, the most in the world counted until the present time.
But more surprisingly, that number reached 96% of Margrethe Maersk's transport capacity. By design, it can carry up to 18,270 containers in one journey.
Although owned by Maersk Line, Margrethe Maersk is built, assembled and launched in Deawoo Group's factory. It was designed with a length of 399m, a width of 59m, with a capacity of 18,270 TEU.
However, Margrethe saved nearly 50% of fuel compared to "predecessor" , thereby, a significant reduction in expenses for the company.
