China shipped the world's largest container ship

Ship H1416 is up to 400 meters long, weighs 198,000 tons and can carry up to 21,237 standard containers.

China State Shipbuilding Corporation on June 12 officially handed over the world's largest container ship to China Shipping Corporation (COSCO) at a shipyard in Shanghai. COSCO Shipping Universe is 400 meters long, 58.6 meters wide and 33.5 meters high. Weight of ship when not carrying cargo up to 198,000 tons. H1416 surpassed COSCO Shipping Virgo (399.8 meters long, 58.6 meters wide and 30.7 meters high) to become China's largest container ship, and set a new world record.

Ship H1416 has a maximum container capacity of 21,237 TEUs, ie 21,237 standard 20-foot containers (6.1 meters long, 2.4 meters wide and 2.6 meters high), 20,192 TEUs higher than the COSCO Shipping Virgo. However, it has not yet surpassed the record set by OOCL Hong Kong in 2007 with container capacity up to 21,413 TEUs.

The ship is equipped with many of the most modern Chinese systems such as advanced navigation systems, satellite information systems, alarm systems and cabin monitoring, or video surveillance systems (CCTV). China plans to continue shipping at least 5 container ships of the same type in 2019.
