Creates the world's fastest laser pulse

American scientists have created a short-lived laser pulse at 67atto seconds - twice as fast as the blink time.

Researchers at the University of Central Florida have created a world record for laser pulse time. The new laser was created by Dr. Zenghu Chang and his colleagues with a short pulse time of only 67atto seconds. The previous record belonged to the laser created by European scientists in 2008.

Scientists say the technology they use can even produce lasers with a short pulse time of 25 attoseconds. This could help physicists be able to observe the motion of electrons around atoms.

Our laser pulse moves 20 nanometers in just 67atto seconds. The light is almost unmoving during this super short period , "said Zenghu Chang physicist, who led the study, in Live Science.

To obtain this fast pulsed laser, scientists used a special optical system called Double Optical Gating (DOG) . This device allows the compression of light components into a tiny pulse with a duration of 67atto seconds. Once the light is compressed, it switches from low-energy infrared rays to ultraviolet rays with high energy and short pulse.

'When you turn on or off the switch, you are creating a light pulse from the light bulb. To create a pulse in attosecond time, you must have a similar device to switch the bulb, but in much faster time , ' said Dr. Zenghu Chang.

The newly created laser has too fast pulses that scientists can not measure with the current cameras they have to create a new type of camera called FROG-CRAB . This camera is modified from a camera using a super-fast laser.
