Cure cancer with ... smart bomb

A type of 'smart bomb' can simultaneously attack cancer cells while boosting the body's immune system.

According to DailyMail, this type of bomb has been successfully tested by scientists in mice with melanoma skin cancer that has spread to the lungs. In the experiment, tiny hollow globules stuck inside the blood vessels of the tumor will release a powerful anti-cancer drug.

According to the researchers, this new technology has overcome a major problem in cancer treatment ever, using conventional therapies. Malignant tumors often secrete chemicals that interfere with the body's immune system, causing the body to be disoriented and unaware of where to "defend" from. But efforts to neutralize tumor malignant chemicals and reinforce patient resistance rarely achieve results.

According to Nature Materials, NLGs have succeeded in combining two completely different types of molecules. One is designed to overcome the cancer cell defense weapon TGF-beta, which is the culprit in the blindness of the immune system.

The remaining molecule stimulates and signals signals for immune activities, said Dr Stephen Wrzesinski of Yale University of Medicine (USA).

The research group chose skin cancer melanoma because this is a typical cancer of immunotherapy. In the past, traditional therapies had difficulty controlling both toxins secreted by the tumor, and also distributed antibodies throughout the body.

The new NLGs system is small enough to be distributed throughout the body through the bloodstream, but large enough to be trapped in the blood vessels of cancerous tumors. Once trapped, they decompose to release the inner remedy.
