Heavy rains fell in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in the past few days causing floods. The floodwaters swept many dead trees down Rodrigo de Freitas. After a few days, the rotten tree trunk drained the oxygen in the water. Due to lack of oxygen, the fish in the lagoon died, Newscientist reported.
Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon is connected to the sea and has a beautiful landscape, but the fish here died many times. Garbage, water pollution, the explosion of algae, poor drainage system cause the concentration of oxygen in the water to break down often. Breaking around Venice, Italy also faces similar conditions.
Terra TV reported that environmental workers had collected 65 tons of dead fish carcasses since March 11. They are trying to get the job done quickly, because the boat races in the preliminary round in the upcoming Olympic 2016 on the lagoon. Brazil will be the host country of the 2016 Olympics.
