Decode those who are always inferior about their looks

Unusual links between regions in the brain are the reason many people always feel they are ugly and rough.

BDD is a negative psychological state, in which infected people always feel dissatisfied with their appearance, although others find them completely normal. The patient became sad because of his appearance, fear of leaving home and sometimes thinking about suicide. Most of them have to go to the hospital often.

In fact, BDD affects approximately 2% of the population and it is more common than schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. Although the disease has a high incidence and severity, scientists know quite a bit about the neurobiological mechanism of BDD.

Dr. Jamie Feusner, a psychologist at the University of California in the US, and colleagues learned about BDD syndrome , Science Daily reported. They swept the brains of 14 people diagnosed with BDD along with 16 healthy people. Their goal is to map brain connections to test the way the nerve cell binds (white matter).

White matter is nerve fibers that transmit nerve impulses from parts of the cortex to other parts of the nervous system.

Scientists discovered unusual bundles in the white matter network. They involve local processes such as image processing and emotional building in the brain.

'The brain of people with BDD seems to be very sensitive to small defects. Unusual white matter may be related to how they perceive, feel and behave , 'Feusner said.

The new finding will help psychologists to give signs to identify people at risk for BDD.

"The brain link is ineffective in the head of the patient directly causing psychological compulsions such as mirroring ," Feusner said.
