Detecting rare and precious snub-nosed monkeys in Ha Giang

The International Conservation of Flora and Fauna (FFI) found a rare and precious rare snub-nosed monkeys in Khau Ca forest, Ha Giang province.

The FFI team said they saw about 80 upturned snub-nosed monkeys, of which 16 were born. According to FFI, primate species in general, including the upturned snub-nosed monkeys only appear seasonally, so the presence of a large group of this species is considered rare and good news for the scientific community.

Tonkin snub-nosed monkeys are one of 25 primate species that are in danger of extinction on a global scale and are endemic to Vietnam. There are currently only four species of Tonkin snub-nosed monkeys in the world, of which three are in China and one is in our country.

Despite strict Vietnamese regulations, they are still being hunted and the number is decreasing dramatically. It is estimated that there are only about 110 snub-nosed monkeys in the wild.

In the past, world conservation organizations such as FFI, the University of Colorado, Denver Zoo, San Diego of the United States and Singapore Zoo are partners to support Vietnam to protect and increase the number of Tonkin snub-nosed monkeys. in Khau Ca.

The Tonkin snub-nosed monkeys have the scientific name Rhinopithecus strykeri . They have dark brown fur. The hair on the head and the face are pale. They have no crest on the top of the head. Chest area, abdomen, front face and posterior limbs are translucent white. This white hair plate pulls the beam out of the elbow. Tail is longer than body, hairy. The new baby langur lays light yellow feathers, when it turns color like adult langurs.
