Strangely the monkey has a long nose and mimics like a cow
Proboscis monkeys, also known as long-nosed monkeys. In Malay, they are also called with another name Bekantan. The monkey is a primate family, whose scientific name is Nasalis larvatus.
They are inherently popular in the world. However, this species is now endemic to the Indonesian Borneo Islands. Proboscis monkeys live mainly on trees. They have a habit of swinging, jumping from one branch to another to find food.
They can be easily recognized from a distance, by large bodies and big bellies. As adults, male male monkeys weigh between 33 and 35kg. The proboscis monkeys have a smaller body, weighing 13 - 16kg.
The proboscis monkey has a long coat. The hair on the back is usually bright orange, reddish brown, yellowish brown or red brick. The abdomen and face are light gray, yellow or light orange and pink. In addition, it is easy to identify them with the most unusually large, long, "big" nose in primate relatives. For the proboscis monkey, the nose can be up to 18cm long.
The long nose is the attraction for partners during the breeding season. The monkey monkeys have a long, big nose that is the "dream" of the monkeys. Also thanks to owning the "terrible" nose that proboscis monkeys can make a cry, howling echoes a few dozen kilometers away.
Scientist Ikki Matsuda, Primate Research Institute, Kyoto University, Japan, pointed out the special thing of proboscis monkeys, which is the instinct to chew food like some ungulates. They will eat a lot of food in the stomach, then in their spare time they will do the chewing. They closed their stomachs and vomited their food to their mouths, then relaxed and savored it. The favorite proboscis monkey is mainly flowers, fruits, leaves and nuts. Sometimes they eat all kinds of insects.
At the age of 5, the monkeys will enter reproductive age. Mating usually takes place between February and November every year. Pregnancy lasts about 166-200 days or a little later. Proboscis monkeys give birth at night or early in the morning. The monkey monkey mothers will eat their placenta and lick the dirt off the monkey monkey when they are born.
Today, the number of proboscis monkeys has declined at an alarming rate. Over the past 30 to 40 years, the number of these species has decreased by 50%. The baby monkeys have a lot of uncertainties in the growth process. They are the prey of crocodiles, leopard, lizards, eagles and pythons . Most young monkeys have not survived to adulthood.
In addition, they were hunted by humans. Presently monkeys are listed as endangered animals in the red book.
