Detection of hairy pig nose mice in the longest

Scientists were stunned to discover a completely new species of pig nose in the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, which possesses the longest "enclosed" fur in the rat world. The "lush" in the lower part is said to be a unique feature that makes it easier for them to mate and maintain the breed.

Pig nose mice have the longest closed-area fur in the world

This strange animal was discovered by Australian, Indonesian and American scientists in January 2013 in a remote forest on Sulawesi Island (Indonesia). It is scientifically called Hyorhinomys stuempkei , also known as pig nose nose . There is not much known about this mouse as well as its habitat.

However, their " unique " characteristics make scientists wonder about the world of mice. They are the first rats in the world to have a "pig" nose, "rabbit" ears, " lug " teeth, small mouths, and long faces. In particular, they possess a "lush" " furry " fur, which is even considered to have the longest pubic hair in the world of rats today. Some individuals of this rat species have been brought to the Indonesian museum for display by scientists.

The mouse-nosed pig has relatives with Indian grouper species. Their food is mainly earthworms, beetle larvae and invertebrates. On average, a mouse weighs about 200-250gr and is 40 - 45cm long.

Kevin Rowe, an expert from the Victoria Museum (Australia), came to Indonesia six weeks in a row, trying to reach remote areas to discover more new species. He said: "We set up traps overnight, after a few days, I saw a completely new mouse caught in. These mice are big, healthy, weighing about two and a half hours. This rat species truly an interesting discovery for us, we add diversity to an already rich and rich ecosystem of Sulawesi (Indonesia) '.

Rowe added that some species of rats look similar to this species on the island of Sulawesi (Indonesia). However, the newly discovered pig nose mouse has more striking and exotic characteristics. He described the nose of the new mouse as upturned that looks like a pig's nose, their faces are longer and their ears are larger than normal rats, while the lower jaw points out rather than the upper jaw. In particular, the hair on the lower part of this species is "of impressive length" , considered to be the longest-haired species in the rat world.

Dr Rowe added that, although uncertain, scientists believe that this "longest" pubic hair in the world may be related to the habits, behavior of the pig nose and may be a trait. they mate more easily. 'Both male and female mice have long, bearded, like pubic hairs,' said Dr. Rowe.
