Detecting tiny, glowing sharks and having faces of demons
Sharks with evil faces are confirmed to be a new creature.
Recently, experts from Florida Atlantic University (USA) have confirmed the existence of a new deep-sea shark. It lives in waters of about 300m below sea level, in the northwest of Hawaii.
This fish is fevered by a tiny body, weighing only about 900gr. In addition, they have the ability to self-glow, and come with a nasty face. Combining both elements, it looks like they look like demons under the Atlantic Ocean.
Lantern shark.
It is known that the new species is named Etmopterus lailae , and it belongs to the lantern shark class (lanternshark) . However, the purpose of this fish's glowing ability is controversial, because of its small size, it is not used to lure bait. Science is currently inclined to assume more camouflage.
"There are about 450 shark species found worldwide, and you don't always find a new species," said Professor Stephen Kajiura from Florida Atlantic University.
"There is a huge range of biodiversity that is unknown, so finding such a small shark really excited me."
"This fish is definitely not known and studied, because it is too small and lives very deep."
The strange head of the new shark.
In fact, this fish was found once in 2000. However, in the literature, science then placed it in a group of known sharks. So to get this conclusion is a work of experts, when it comes to carefully comparing the species of sharks with each other.
"New fish have characteristics that cannot be arranged with other lantern sharks" - Kajiura shared. "For example, it has a very strange head, the nostrils are unusually large. The reason is because they live in very deep waters, so the sense of smell must grow stronger to find food."
Kajiura holds a new shark in his hand.
Currently, the only shark model that experts are in . museums, but they have not been able to see the fish in the wild. But that is enough to see that the ocean has many mysteries. Only fear, people cannot discover it all.
