Disaster management for the Lower Mekong countries
In order to develop disaster management capabilities for the four countries in the lower Mekong River, Vietnam and the United States have organized a seminar on managing downstream Mekong River disaster on September 12.
During the workshop, the United States and its members from four Lower Mekong countries, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand, will share practical knowledge and experiences on issues such as flood management, preparation and disaster response, water and food shortages, public health problems, disease control.
'The workshop not only facilitates partner countries in the Lower Mekong region to dialogue, but it is also important that it links civil and military officials of a country as well as between countries. we. An effective civil-military cooperation is essential for disaster preparedness and response, " said US Consul General Le Thanh An.
The workshop will last for five days in the Mekong Delta, chaired by the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, with the support of the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense and the US Pacific Command.
The workshop was part of the Lower Mekong Initiative launched by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Foreign Ministers of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam in 2009, to strengthen regional cooperation for better deal with common challenges and opportunities in the areas of education, environment, health and infrastructure.
