Language Professor Carmel O'Shannessy of the University of Michigan said "Light Warlpiri" combines a variety of languages, including Warlpiri - named after the region's native tribe, English and Kriol - English The hybrid was first developed in the state of New South Wales in the early colonial days but soon spread to other regions.
About 6,000 people in indigenous communities in Northern Australia Territory speak Warlpiri traditionally, but the language seems to have developed, including many elements from other languages.
Scientists found about 300 people are speaking this new language. They were people in the remote desert community in the Northern Territory, about 650 kilometers from Katherine.
The findings have just been published in the recent issue of Digital Speech.
