Discover long-necked dinosaurs in the ice continent

For the first time, Italian scientists discovered fossils of Sauropod long-necked dinosaurs in Antarctica.

'Sauropod dinosaur fossils are found all over the world, except Antarctica,' said Ariana Paulina Carabajal, a paleontologist at the Funes Carmen City Museum, Italy. 'This is the first time the fossil of a Sauropod was found in the ice continent.'

The single individual discovered on James Ross Island in Antarctica showed giant dinosaurs, including Diplodocus, Brachiosaurus and Apatosaurus who lived here during the Cretaceous period more than 100 million years ago.

The findings were reported on November 3 at the annual meeting of the Vertebrate Biology Society.

Ariana Paulina Carabajal said it was not the first time that dinosaur fossils were found in ice continents. In 1986, scientists also discovered the skeleton of the Dinosaur Ankylosaur and since then some fossils of other dinosaurs have been found.

'Perhaps there are many dinosaurs in Antarctica, but we could not find it because it was very difficult to reach this area and to find fossils here was equally difficult because the continent was covered with thick ice. . Even in the summer when the ice melts and cracks into pieces, it is impossible to find a full skeleton, 'said Ariana Paulina Carabajal.

The team also discovered fossils of some marine fish, reptiles and invertebrates on James Ross Island.

According to scientists in Ky Phan Trang, Antarctica is connected to South America and Australia so dinosaurs can move easily from one continent to another.

Antarctica is not as far south as it is today so ice continents can be warm enough for the existence of giant animals.

Sauropod long-necked dinosaur is very popular in South America, long neck and tail, can weigh more than 100 tons. They are herbivores.
