Discover more than 1000 new planets outside the solar system

US astronomers have just announced the discovery of more than 1,000 potential objects, new planets outside the solar system - nearly double the number of planets detected by NASA's Kepler space telescope to date. .

>>>100 billion planets in the Milky Way

This new planetary series was analyzed from data collected by Kepler glasses from May 2009 to September 2010. The study shows that there are 1091 potential objects as planets, bringing the total number of new planets from 1235 to 2321.

Notably, 'it can be confirmed that at least 90% of these objects are real planets , ' said study co-author Ronald Gilliland, an astronomer at Pennsylvania State University, and a member of the Kepler observation team.

What is more interesting is that many of these are small and cool planets like the earth and at the same time these characteristics are more like the earth than the planets found before. For example, there are about 196 planets the size of Earth, which is four times the number of planet-sized planets published last year.

Scientists also announced that there are 416 super-planet planets in this newly discovered planet. Super-Earths are planets of about 10 times the mass of Earth, have a rocky surface and a thin atmosphere, and are more likely to have life.

According to National Geographic , the trend of detecting increasingly small planets thanks to the Kepler space telescope shows that we are increasingly approaching Earth-like planets, capable of storing water and life.

The Kepler telescope was launched into space by NASA in March 2009 to serve the task of detecting planets. It can detect light but regular light from stars. Based on the image from the glass, scientists can determine whether these changes are due to planets orbiting the orbit, thereby helping to identify the new planet.
